Why Support Us?

OMNI Television plays a vital and unique role within the Canadian media landscape. For over 35 years, we’ve provided a strong and relevant voice for Canadian ethnic and third-language communities through the provision high-quality multicultural and multilingual programming.

We believe OMNI plays a vital role in connecting Canada’s ethnic communities, so we’ve applied for a renewal of the national channel OMNI Regional that would be included in basic TV packages across the country. As part of our new proposal, we’re increasing our commitment to high-quality language news – adding daily national newscasts in Spanish, Arabic, and Tagalog to join our current national newcasts in Mandarin, Cantonese and Punjabi ,seven days a week. Plus, regional daily newscasts in Italian.

We believe our proposal offers a win-win solution: Canadians get low-cost access to quality news and information programming in their language of comfort no matter where they live, and OMNI and our community and production partners get a stable revenue source that we can use to build a strong and relevant voice for ethnic audiences in Canada.

  • A commitment to broadcast six daily national newscasts seven days a week in Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Spanish, Arabic, and Tagalog; plus regional newscasts in Italian;
  • A commitment to devote 80% of OMNI Regional’s schedule to ethnic programming 50% of the schedule to third-language programming;
  • A commitment to devote 5% of OMNI Regional’s annual revenues to ethnic and/or third-language scripted dramas and documentaries;;
  • A commitment to maintain local daily current affairs shows in Mandarin, Cantonese and Punjabi languages;
  • Unique programming each month that targets 20 distinct ethnic groups in 20 different languages on the Pacific, Prairies and East feeds, and 18 distinct ethnic groups in 15 different languages on the Quebec feed;
  • Scholarships for ethnic and third-language news journalists amounting to $100,000 that will be provided to five different educational institutions located in each of the regions OMNI Regional serves;
  • A minimum of 12 hours of locally produced independent programming on each of OMNI Regional’s four feeds on weekly basis – including commitments to local independent production in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Atlantic Canada. And more multilingual Canadian content – 55% over the broadcast day and 50% in the evening period
  • A digital app that will provide viewers with multiplatform access to OMNI Regional content live and on-demand.

FAQ

Q:

A: 可以!
